Tring Brewery's Side Pocket for a Toad Poured at Parliament's Strangers' Bar |
Hertfordshire's beloved ale makes a historic debut in Westminster |
Tring Brewery's flagship ale, Side Pocket for a Toad, has been introduced to the esteemed Strangers' Bar within the Houses of Parliament.
This marks a significant milestone for the Hertfordshire-based brewery, as their renowned beer is now being served to Members of Parliament and their guests.
The initiative was spearheaded by Victoria Collins, MP for Harpenden and Berkhamsted, who nominated the ale through the parliamentary Guest Beer program.
In recognition of this honor, Tring Brewery's beer sommelier, Jared Ward, was invited to Westminster for a tour and to sample the ale in the exclusive bar.
Reflecting on the occasion, Ward expressed, "To have Side Pocket for a Toad nominated for service at Westminster is truly historic. What started as an unconventional name and playful mascot twenty-five years ago soon morphed into the brewery’s champion ale and remains top of the pack after all these years."
He extended gratitude to MP Collins, stating, "We’d like to thank Victoria Collins for her work in getting Tring ale into Strangers' Bar. We relished the opportunity to tour the hallowed halls and chambers, and to prop up the bar at one of the country’s most exclusive pubs. To have our local representative give us this platform is a very special moment indeed for Tring Brewery."
MP Collins shared her enthusiasm, remarking, "It has been great to be able to champion a brewery within the Harpenden and Berkhamsted constituency in Tring Brewery. It was such fun to pour a pint of Side Pocket for a Toad in Strangers’ Bar. Here’s to supporting local."
Side Pocket for a Toad, named after an old Hertfordshire saying alluding to the uselessness of anything, akin to a "chocolate teapot," celebrated 25 years of brewing last year and was named Hertfordshire Beer of the Year at the St Albans Beer and Cider Festival in November.
While Tring Brewery's visit to the Houses of Parliament has concluded, Side Pocket for a Toad will continue to be served at the Strangers’ Bar in the coming weeks, with cellars stocked with four more casks.
Established in 1992, Tring Brewery has been a cornerstone of Hertfordshire's brewing scene, producing a range of ales that pay homage to local folklore and traditions.
Their commitment to quality and community engagement has solidified their reputation among beer enthusiasts.
For those interested in experiencing Side Pocket for a Toad firsthand, the brewery offers tours and tastings at their Dunsley Farm location, providing an intimate look into their brewing process and the stories behind their unique beer names.
As Side Pocket for a Toad continues to flow in the halls of Westminster, it stands as a testament to the rich brewing heritage of Hertfordshire and the enduring appeal of locally crafted ales.
Cheers to Tring Brewery for bringing a taste of home to the heart of British politics. |
